Once part of the sprawling Rancho San Juan Cajon de Santa Ana, what was to become Placentia (Spanish for “pleasant place to
live”) was settled in the 1880’s and soon became a thriving agriculture
community where citrus, walnuts, avocadoes and grapes were grown.
In the early 1960’s the building boom really hit Placentia, and soon
housing tracts took over the former crop fields. In 1971 Placentia
was chosen as an “AllAmericaCity”,
and that designation is stillused in
the street signs.
Placentia’s original “OldTown”
has been targeted for preservation, and many older buildings have been restored
to their former glory. Placentia
is known for it’s fine school district and beautiful parks.
