Whittier, in southeast Los Angeles county, bordering Orange County, is a picturesque community founded by Quakers in 1886. Early industry included citrus farming and crude oil production. Whittier is proud of its reputation as a place where residents “live, work and shop”. Uptown Whittier is an eclectic mix of old and new, and its theaters and restaurants keep it busy all of the time.

Known for its historic neighborhoods and well-tended parks, Whittier is a place where many people desire to move. With its excellent school districts (President Nixon graduated from Whittier High and Whittier College), and nationally-ranked private college (Whittier College), Whittier has a nice urban-suburban feel.

Protected by the Whittier Police Department and the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the city boasts a crime rate much lower than most neighboring cities.
